Dr Derrick Kuan
General Practitioner
Derrick Kuan graduated from UWA in 1997 and has worked in general practice for most of the time since. Since starting as a GP in Perth’s Northern Suburbs, he has continued to deepen his passion for general practice as a calling rather than just a job. He became a practice owner in 2006 and was a key part of a successful management team for a group of practices. Derrick found leading a group of general practitioners, trainees as well as allied health and clerical staff, immensely rewarding and satisfying. Derrick has provided mentorship to junior GPs and trainees. This allowed him to connect to so many amazing, committed young doctors. In mentorship, He was fortunate to have been recognised as RACGP Supervisor of the Year in 2019.
Dr Kuan feels that listening and connection is the key skill of a general practitioner (or any healer for that matter) and that true listening comes not through your ears but through your heart.
